Jan Danser studied pharmacy in Amsterdam. As a student, he investigated bronchial 1 receptors at the Mayo Clinic (USA). He obtained his PhD at the Erasmus MC in Rotterdam, and since 2004 heads the Department of Pharmacology at this institution. His research focuses on hypertension, and the role of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system. He supervised >40 PhD students, and teaches basic and clinical pharmacology. He published >380 papers, and presented >250 invited lectures. He received several awards, including the Tigerstedt Award (2010) from the International Society of Hypertension, the Corcoran Award (2011) from the AHA Council on Hypertension, and the Pieter van Zwieten Award from the European Society of Hypertension (2015). He was president of the Dutch Pharmacological Society (2011-2015), and chaired the Angiotensin Gordon Conference (2014). He is the current chair of the Dutch Galien Award committee. He is married and has two sons and one daughter.
